Embodied Psychology for Elite Athletes
I specialize in the intersection of mental health and performance excellence. By addressing the person behind the athlete, I help clients navigate the psychological complexities of maintaining high levels of performance.
We don't just talk about grit or mental skills; we build the physiological capacity for it with nervous system education and practices.

PLAYER TO COACH TO LICENSED COUNSELOR
My Story
Courtney (Curby) Flores is a licensed clinical professional counselor and former Division 1 soccer player and coach who specializes in helping athletes maximize their competitive experience.
From a young age, Courtney has been surrounded by high level athletics. Her father was a captain of the University of Michigan wrestling team and Big 10 champion. Both of her brothers were high achieving wrestlers. Her oldest brother, Nick, was a high school All-American and wrestled at the University of Illinois. Her other brother Jacob was a member of the U.S. National Greco Roman Wrestling Team and a world class wrestler. Surrounded by high aspiring athletes throughout her lifetime, Courtney has a profound understanding of challenges athletes face at different stages of their journey.

Themes of mental toughness and grit were ingrained at a young age. It was not until college that she discovered the missing components for her peak performance were nervous system recovery and performance anxiety management. Courtney was first introduced to breathwork, yoga, and meditation while playing Division 1 college soccer and continued her training in these practices beyond college.
After her 4-year collegiate career, Courtney went on to coach high school soccer, club soccer, and college soccer before earning her master's degree in mental health counseling. She has always been drawn to the psychological aspects of sport. She is also an ardent supporter of healthy youth sport practices.

Courtney has over 10 years of clinical experience in the field of mental health in multiple levels of therapeutic care. She has extensive training in advanced trauma interventions and experience supporting clients in eating disorder recovery. She lives in the Chicago suburbs with her husband and three children.
